Veritas 5-Hour Battery Review: Starlink Mini Power on Our Truck Camper

OUR VERDICT

It clicks on where the Mini's kickstand was, has its own stand, keeps the Mini online while it charges, and matches the mount we already run. The display and app tell you exactly what the Mini is pulling. Our timed runtime test is next, so for now the 5 hours is Veritas' number, not ours.

What we like

  • Clicks on in place of the Mini's kickstand and has its own flip-out stand
  • Pass-through charging: the Mini stays online while the battery charges
  • Display shows percent, watts and time left right on the unit
  • App can turn the Mini on when you arrive, hold a reserve floor and send alerts
  • Matches the Veritas mount and fits it with the Mini Mount Adapter

What to know going in

  • Swapping our old bracket for the adapter took a hammer, not a screwdriver
  • The QR code on our unit went to a dead page on the Veritas site
  • We have not timed a full run yet, so 5 hours is still the rated number

Why we wanted it

Our Starlink Mini lives on the Veritas mount on the roof of the Aerie 8, wired off the camper. The gap was always the same: the second the Mini leaves the rig, it needs power from somewhere. A battery that clicks on where the kickstand was means one piece instead of a dish, a power bank and a cable.

What is in the box

The battery, a DC cable for the Mini and a 100 W USB-C cable. The combo adds the Mini Mount Adapter, the piece that lets the battery ride on the Veritas mount. The battery is all metal and has its own flip-out stand, which the older batteries we have run did not.

The install

To use it on our mount we had to swap the old bracket for the adapter. Ours fought us. A bigger hammer won. Once it was on, the battery slid into place and locked.

On the bench

Powered up, the display showed the Mini pulling about 22 watts at first, then 28 to 30 watts once it settled, with the time-left estimate moving between four and five hours. Veritas rates it at up to 5 hours on a Starlink Mini. We are running a full timed test on the camper and will post the real number.

The app

The free Veritas Battery app connects over Bluetooth. It shows live watts and battery level and lets you automate the Mini: turn it on when you arrive, keep a reserve floor, set a charge limit and get low-battery alerts. The full tour is in the video.

Who it is for

If you run a Starlink Mini and want it off the vehicle, at the campsite table or on a short hike, without dragging a power station around, this is the cleanest setup we have used so far. If your Mini never leaves the roof and runs off the camper’s 12 V, you may not need it.
